Workshop: Interpretation with today's technology
We were able to hold a workshop on the subject of mediation in the CAS Museum Work.

In the past, audio guides were often associated with high costs that were hardly affordable for many museums and cultural institutions. Production required expensive rental equipment or the development of complex apps by external agencies. The content was produced in recording studios. Long-term contracts and expensive infrastructure purchases drove costs up even further. But this seems to have fallen out of time. Is it still appropriate to invest tens of thousands in the development of audio guides? And how much does an audio guide cost?
Today, there is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative: professional audio guides are available starting at 248 CHF / € per month or less than 3,000 CHF / € per year. Using a smartphone, content can be recorded and uploaded, allowing museums to create high-quality audio guides with minimal effort. This process is as simple as creating a social media post.
In our experience, museums using the Wonnder (formerly Audio-Cult) solution benefit not only financially through savings on technical infrastructure, but above all in terms of time. The Wonnder platform enables museums to create high-quality guides much more efficiently, which in turn saves time. And as we all know, time is money.
Many providers lack transparency when it comes to costs. Wonnder’s pricing structure is transparent and flexible. For smaller museums, this means that with an annual subscription, tours start at 248 CHF / € per month. Additional tours are available starting at 49 CHF / €. Each tour can be offered in multiple languages at no extra cost.
This means:
2 tours starting at 297 CHF / €
3 tours starting at 346 CHF / €
4 tours starting at 395 CHF / €
5 tours starting at 444 CHF / €
etc.
By collaborating with many museums, we can develop a cost-effective offering and continuously improve the platform. New features and technical innovations are regularly implemented to ensure we always provide our customers with the best possible service.
The content is arguably the most important part of the audio guide, as it is the main element with which your visitors interact. “Content” refers to all audio and visual components of the tour.
While outsourcing content creation is convenient and enhances the quality of your tour, it may not be the most cost-effective option. If your content needs to be created from scratch, we collaborate with a network of specialists—including writers, voice actors, sound engineers, and, if necessary, translators—to produce engaging content. The cost of these services can vary depending on the scope of the content, but averages between 400 and 2,000 CHF / € per tour and language.
In fact, most museums already possess the necessary expertise, educational skills, and can create recordings themselves. Very good results can be achieved in a quiet room using a smartphone or an external microphone. Wonnder’s AI-powered filter processes the voice recording to deliver an optimal listening experience. You upload the audio files, type or copy the text, and select a suitable image for each object. If desired, high-quality authentic voices can also be generated using AI. You don’t need to be an app developer to do this. No special skills are required.
You have full access to the Audio Guide Creator at all times to make changes or updates. The Creator gives you full control over your content. This also gives you control over your copyrighted material and intellectual property.
Regardless of whether you have the content produced externally or create it yourself: We will be happy to advise you. And more importantly, your audience will benefit from modern communication. Audio guides and emotional storytelling not only make museums more accessible, but also more accessible and exciting.
This revolution in the museum sector makes it possible for museums of any size and orientation to offer high-quality audio guides and thus sustainably improve the visitor experience without having to make large investments.
How are great audio experiences created?
